Analysis of 3 digipaks that relate to your genre (Research)

I believe that the following album cover by “LA ROUX” relates to my artist “4LW/4 LETTER WORD” , because you can straight away see that  the albums are from the same pop/indie genre as my artist because the front cover image is of  La Roux the female artist. Which you can see straight away that she has a bit of attitude and that she is funky but also fun. This is portrayed by firstly that the image La Roux is a side close up shot of her face. This shows that she is strong mined and that she has a edgy look about her. I also believe that the bright orange/red colour used in the background represents the whole fun and young colours, which reflects the target audience as fun teenagers that just like to have fun and party.

I also believe that lily Allen’s also has a huge link with my artist. Her Digipak is the perfect representation of a good a female pop artist cd album. It has the artist right in the centre of image so that her target audience and fans would recognise her straight away because she is wearing a similar dress with trainers that she wears in the smile video which is one of the debut singles featured on the album. So as soon as her fans go into the local music store such as hmv they will recognise the album straight away. Plus she is on a bike and has gold ghetto big earrings in her ears. This also represents that her target audience maybe young girls between the ages of 13-17 were their own sense of style is trying to break through. In addition the colours used and the funky text seems more compatible with a younger audience rather than an older audience, because if the album was made for an older audience it would have less effects on it and it would be more simple.

Finally I believe that Examples Album cover relates to the whole pop genre because the text is written in bold green Text. Plus the album cover follows the same traditional themes of the music video for “Kick starts” because example is in the same type of text which appears at the beginning of the music video. Also the images of the artist sees him in many different costumes just like in the video where his body is being swapped around and being replaced with other peoples body’s and legs. I think this cover relates the most to my artist and her genre because my music video has strong features in it such as the shot with “The lips covered in sprinkles”.  It easy recognisable by the target audience, plus it also fun, playful and abstract; which kind of sums up our target audience life style.

Final Edit (production)

Examples and analysis of videos that follow amplification, disjuncture and illustration(Research)

Amplification

I believe that this video has and underneath theory to it. This because in the video Beyonce acts as if she was a boy and the roles are switched.  This makes the whole theme of the video have a different meaning behind it.

Disjuncture

This another good example of disjuncture because the artist Katie Nash is telling the story but about what is happening in her video. It is as if she is the narrator telling the audience a story.

Illustration

The following video represents illustration well  because the lyrics of the song do not have any connection to the video. The video is just a basic video of the two artist Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj just performing the song but the video it self does not have allot of links to the lyrics as far as i am concerned.

Feedback from the rough cut (Production)

We got some feed back from our teacher about our rough cut and here are the following points he told us that we need to improve on:

1. He said that we should add a variety of colours to our green screen shots to see which ones we might prefer or will work better for the type of fun atmosphere we are trying to portray.

2. Secondly he told us that some of our shots were to long, so we should cut them to keep the fast tempo of our song.

3 He also said to us that we need more of a variety of shots.

4. Finally he said that we have got a lot of editing to do so we have to spend more time on our music video.

Analysis of at least one sequence from the rough cut (Production)

The following screen shots bellow are some examples of what i am going to change about my music video.

Due to the feed back that we got from people i have as few details of what i am going to change about this clip.First of all i have decided that this part of the video is to long so i am going to cut it down using the cutting tool, so that it looks more quick, fast, sharp and effective. I have also decided that i am going to add some colour to the background of the green screen so it looks more interesting and eye catching. While the colour's are changing I'm going to add some transition's between them to make it go with the whole funky theme of our video with strange bright things happening.
I am going to make this shot better my making the lips all in sink on time with the music. Also by adding some more effects on it to make it seem more abstract.

Analysis of sequence from roughcut (production)

Our opening was a girl popping a bubble to the beat of the music; it then went onto Fran who is the ‘singer’ of this song. We filmed this footage in front of a green screen. Our intentions were to change the colour of the background. The use of flashing colours was to indicate the characters bright personality.

The clip that followed this one was of the singer sitting by a window and singing. The shot was from a low angel and the singer was not looking directly into the camera. This goes against the conventions of music videos, as it makes it seem more personal and it helps the audience to connect and emphasise with the singer. When I continue to edit this music video I will make the length of this clip a lot shorter and use another clip alongside it so I am able to cut between the two clips. Therefore the clip I am going to use with this clip will b one from a different angel and one that is closer to the singers face.  This change should make this part of the video a lot more interesting and it will also seem a lot more like a music video ad it would follow the common conventions of a music video.

We were experimenting with 'body swaping' this involved cropping shots and matching them with another shot. In our rough cut we were learning how to perfect this montage. We had to adjust the size of the images so they would of matched well.

Feed back from the rough cut (production)

Our rough cut was very rough and when we presented it to our teacher we already knew the main points he was going to present to us.
We took all his points on board and we made it a priority to address them. A lot of the shots we used were quite long and we did not have a lot of fast edits. This was needed in order to reflect the fast pace and the upbeat tempo of the song. We also used quite a lot of green screen in our music video, we intended on changing the background of the green screen, and used different colour for the different characters in the music video. We needed to add this in so we were able to experiment with kroma key, and also see which colours look best. We also had a lot of gaps in our time line, which we still needed footage to fill it with. We had to film some more footage so we had a variety of shots to use. The majority of shots we had were on the green screen and we had to change things up a bit as all of our shots seemed repetitive. We done some filming at London bridge, the new filming helped us make our narrative clear, and the change in location made our video more interesting.

As we can see one of the bubbles is blown slightly slower then the other as we were experiencing some difficulty with syncing them. We are aiming for bubbles are blown at the same time and to be the same size. The bubbles will also both be popped on the beat to keep up the fast snappy tempo of the song.

In light of feedback from our teacher we were told that this shot was too long and so therefore we will condense the length of the shot using the cutting tool and perhaps cut in with some side close ups, to create a more intimate effect and to link in with typical conventions of music video's and reinforce the quick fast pace nature of the song.

Rough Cut (production)

Above is the rough cut  version to our music video "That's not my name".

Ananlysis of sequence from the rough cut (production)

Pitch (planning)

Feedback from roughcout(production)

After our teacher carefully analysed our video the main points he feedback to us were that we did not have enough of a variety of shots as many of our shots were midshots and from the front. As a result of this we took the initiative to film more footage with a variety of shots from side angle shots to more close ups. In addition to this our teacher also said that our shots were too long and that we needed to condense them to keep up with the upbeat tempo of our song.

After analysisng the video ourselves we realised that  we had used alot of the green screen whilst filming and so decided to go to London Bridge to film once more using out door shots for more of a variety. As a result of these changes I feel that our video will have more of a variety and will look more interesting as opposed to looking repittive and a bit linear.

Potential Location Shots (planning)

We contemplated using a cinema in order to establish the male character in our video's womanising nature. So we thought we would show him with his individual love interests at the cinema on the same day to express this.

We felt the green screen would be appropriate in order to show a contrast between each girl as we plan to edit each background with a different colour that reflects each girls personality.

We are using the street as we are going to show the lead girl walking towards the end of the song to show the audience that she has reached her breaking point and is no longer interested in her now ex boyfriend.

We intend on using  either the restaurant or the cinema in order to express the main characters womanising tendencies.
